BP CEO Tony Hayward

On the bright side, this tragedy has taught me a lot about Twitter.

I woke up this morning in one of those bad moods that tend to strike even the most powerful of CEO’s.  I was really craving pineapple juice, but because of the many cutbacks we’ve been having to make during this crisis, I knew that finding a servant to freshly squeeze the pineapples would be difficult if not impossible.

But then I decided to think about the bright side of this ordeal, and it occurred to me that this tragedy has taught me a great deal about Twitter.

I never really got into Myspace or Facebook, but this Twitter service has really captivated my attention.  We use our Twitter feed to deftly defend our response to the tragedy, engage in social media driven public relations, and occasionally post statements about our favorite sitcoms.

I sometimes personally write these “Tweets,” as the kids call them.  You can tell that they’re mine when they are signed ^Tony.  I just love the little “^” symbol, it’s like my name is wearing a fun little pointy hat!

I’ve also learned about the bad side of Twitter, which is that other people are allowed to use it too.  They often write very negative things about BP in general and me personally.  But even this bad side has a good side: no matter how mean they are, they can only be mean for 140 characters!
