If we are facing a musical apocalypse, it’s Justin Bieber’s fault.
There have been times in my life when I lost faith in humanity, but there was always a redeeming quality that gave me a little hope. But, what is hope in the face of the malevolent force that is Justin Bieber. Now, let it be known that I’m quite an advocate for the idea of ‘To each their own’, but lines have to be drawn.
I personally have done everything I could to avoid having to be exposed to Bieber mania, but alas, it is everywhere. It was at this point I cannot help but question the happiness derived from this kid. He sings of love, his struggles, his pain and losses, and does all of it while trying to act as if he is a gangsta from the streets, while in fact he is 16 and rich. The middle class suburbia upbringing must have been torment.
I’m all about feel good music for the sake of feel good music, I mean hell, I listen to techno. But what happened to music that had raw emotion and heart poured into it. If this was just a small group of people who adored Bieber’s music, I suppose I could understand. But millions and millions of fans flock to buy his music, watch his videos, and go to his live concerts. Maybe I’m becoming jaded, maybe I’m getting too old even though I just graduated from college, and possibly I just don’t understand the music these young ‘whippersnappers’ enjoy anymore, but I have a feeling that’s just not the case.
It dawned on me that Justin’s 18th birthday falls on the year 2012. Now, I never gave much credence to the Mayan calendar and the whole ‘end of the world’ fiasco, but now I wonder if there is something to it all. Perhaps it’s not the end of the world, but perhaps the end of good music as we know it. Maybe good entertainment as we know it. The last Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn, comes out in 2012 as well. I’m not much for conspiracy theory, but I think it’s time we start getting together and working towards a better future. Between Justin Bieber, Twilight, oil spills, and global warming, our future looks dim.
Boycott, get involved, be heard. Let’s light up the darkness, and bring in an era of entertainment that doesn’t completely suck.
