The Incident
Just after 1 a.m. on June 14th, 2009 Joyce and her friend were taking a taxi home. Their cab was headed east on Columbia Parkway traveling quickly when two teenagers threw a five pound rock at their moving cab. The rock entered the car through the open window of the front passenger side striking Joyce in the rear seat on the opposite side of the car. She suffered multiple skull fractures on her forehead. She was immediately sent to University Hospital and underwent surgery to repair her wound. Joyce has undergone several surgeries to repair her fractured skull and will need several more invasive surgeries before she is fully healed. She is now resting at home receiving round the clock care.

Joyce is continuing to recover from her serious injuries. Her medical expenses are mounting. She is unfortunately without insurance. Joyce will be in need of long term treatment and follow up procedures over the next year. Over the next several months she will be unable to work.

Her friends have established The Joyce Baresel Fund at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH to help alleviate some of the financial burden. Any support, no matter how small, is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Please keep Joyce in your thoughts and prayers.
