Art fundraiser - just in time for the holidays

If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts this holiday season and a way to give back, look no further than Starfire’s 5th annual ArtAbility fundraising event. The event will take place on Dec. 7th, and is being held at the downtown Art Design Consultants gallery.

Money raised will go toward supporting Starfire, a non-profit that has been building inclusive communities with people with disabilities and their families in Cincinnati since 1993. Thirty percent of all sales will benefit Starfire’s mission to build inclusive relationships and decrease social isolation felt by many people with disabilities. Last year, the event had over 14,000 dollars in art sales.
Many local artists will be at the event to sell their work including jewelry by Halominer, apparel by Artfully Disheveled, paintings by Megan Heekin Triantafillou and Nancy Neville, photography by Robert Coomer, plus many more.
“ArtAbility is a win-win because it gives back to Starfire, and introduces artists to a community that supports Starfire,” said Nicole Reblando, co-founder of Halominer and Mt. Auburn resident. Halominer is an eco-friendly jewelry and fiber art product line that creates art wares out of repurposed material such as aluminum cans, old belts, and men’s dress shirts.
A special addition to the line of artist this year will be Lesly Daly, a sculptor out of Loveland whose daughter is also a member of Starfire.
“I think at Starfire (people with disabilities) are being introduced into community more than they are in any other program,” said Daly, whose work can be found at the Brazee studios in Oakley. “It’s important that Starfire works with young people, and has them become part of bigger community in which they’re going to live. It’s that full inclusion and immersion into community and society that makes for happier individuals.”
Tickets are $100 a piece or 2 for $200 with a $25 art credit to be used towards the purchase of a piece at the event. Tickets are available online or by phone 513 281 2100 ext 106.
