Billions of Cicadas burrow eastward to avoid making debut on west side.
Less than four weeks away from making their arrival after 17 years of underground dormancy, waves of cicadas are diligently digging their way under Cincinnati to avoid popping up on the west side. Scientists theorize the cicadas have an instinctive desire to make the best of their six-week lifespan above ground by arriving in neighborhoods other than the west side. It is estimated over a billion cicadas have already journeyed eastward under I-75 unlike their west side human counterparts who typically live out their entire lifespan within a short radius of their birthplace and parents home.
