India outsources call-center jobs to Detroit
DETROIT, MI - The City of Detroit announced this week it has been awarded several thousand low paying call-center jobs from a group of corporations in India that were originally created to provide low paying Indian labor to thriving U.S. companies.
The move by many Indian companies to outsource jobs to the U.S. is a cost savings approach that takes advantage of declining U.S. labor rates caused by a poor U.S. economy and increased unemployment. This shift in the direction of labor represents a complete reversal in overseas outsourcing practices in recent decades. For the first time in a generation, American workers are willing to take low paying jobs.
Reportedly several Chinese companies are also investigating opportunities to profit from low paying American workers.
The U.S. Department of Labor said another shifting trend in the U.S. employment outlook is the large number of Americans migrating to Mexico in pursuit of low-paying landscaping and construction jobs throughout Mexico.
