Fast & Furious 6 plot centers around Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) pulse-pounding pursuit of GED
LOS ANGELES – The latest action-packed installment in the Fast & Furious franchise is being heralded as an educational thrill ride. Fast & Furious 6 delivers extreme highs and lows and manages to maintain a laser-like focus on Dom Toretto’s relentless quest to pass his GED test.
Movie critics have unanimously said the GED element raises the stakes of the plot to a palpable intensity. Toretto’s pursuit of his GED adds a level of full-throttle suspense unlike the previous films in the series. Viewers are treated to the usual Fast & Furious brand of stunts but there is a high-stakes pulse-pounding question weaved throughout: Will Dom get his GED?
Director Jeremy Lin said, “Adding such a huge intellectual aspect to Vin Diesel’s character didn’t come easy. We grappled with how to make sure mind-blowing action wasn’t overshadowed by Dom Toretto’s unstoppable educational pursuit.”
A studio spokesperson said an actual GED coach was hired for Vin Diesel so he could feel what it is really like to reach for such a pinnacle. Cast members say Vin and his GED coach spend every waking moment together for months.
Vin Diesel commented, “In real life I never got a chance to get my GED. The filming schedule of the first Fast & Furious movie got in the way of that. I remember at the time I felt really conflicted. This latest film gave me the chance to finally come to grips with it. I still don’t actually have my GED but I feel more confident I can get it if needed.”
Does Vin Diesel actually get his GED in this movie? Director Justin Lin commented, “Toward the end of the movie you start to get the sick feeling there are just too many obstacles preventing Dom from getting his GED. I don’t want to give away the ending so let’s just say in true Dom Toretto fashion, he digs deep and surprises everyone…maybe even himself.”
