Miami Heat reluctantly agree to play out season before getting championship trophy
MIAMI, FL - The front office and players of the Miami Heat have relented to pressure from the NBA, and now plan to play the 2010-2011 basketball season. The organization was shocked to discover that the league wanted the team to play through the regular season and playoffs before awarding them the championship.
“Well, we’re sorry to have to do this to the fans,” said Heat owner Micky Arison. “Hopefully they will stick with us through this unfortunate delay until we finally get the trophy that is so rightfully ours.”
The city of Miami is disappointed as well, as they had already granted the team permits to hold weekly victory parades throughout the remainder of the summer. “It would have been nice to see some people out on the streets,” said Mayor Manny Diaz. “Heck, I even thought a little post victory riot would be good for both the economy and police morale.”
Dwayne Wade’s attorneys applaud the move, saying that playing basketball will be a nice distraction for their client when he’s not in court.
